I just enjoyed a lovely sunny spring afternoon in my garden, shooting one of my favourite ever models, Estella-Rose in a shoot we dubbed “joys of spring”. She was dressed in her stylish vintage one piece swimsuit, and performed various dance, pilates and yoga poses, accompanied by a selection of suitable props.
We set these against a backdrop of the fresh green leaves on the trees and bushes, and the clear blue sky above. We followed this by a few snaps in the setting sun, as I drove her home across Portsdown Hill, with the backdrop of Portsmouth, Southsea, the Solent and the Isle of Wight stretching some 20 km into the distance.

Photographing models in harsh sunlight is a bit of a challenge. So we cheated and put a 200 joule studio light and white brolly into the garden and powered it up from the socket in the shed. Fortunately my wireless flash triggers work perfectly out doors. As the sun slowly sunk lower in the western sky, and shadows grew longer, I removed the brolly and used the flash head in spot mode. This created some surprisingly dynamic shadows
Insofar as ideas go, the split was circa 50/50. But her energy and joy as she danced across the grass felt like I was like photographing the very essence of spring itself.
As always, lovely model, lovely person, and very highly recommended.
