I had the pleasure of working with the lovely Estella Rose again today. I always enjoy working with Estella Rose, but I think was probably our best ever shoot. We had planned to do Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, but couldn’t find the costume. So instead we turned to an idea we’ve had brewing for a while developed as a result of experiments with AI, where we would turn her into a superhero. A role that I have to say suits her really rather well.
We decided to use moodier lighting with longer shadows. Also used a snoot to light her hair in some shots. We even managed to capture a stop-frame animation of Estella Rose’s superhero transformation. So here it is – as a motion “WEBP” format file…
The header image is an out-take turned into a meme. It was a sheer fluke that I happened to click the shutter button at the exact millisecond that Estella Rose realised she had put her foot through the paper. She was terribly embarrassed, but TBH experience has taught me that if one gets through an entire photoshoot with just a small hole in the backdrop, then that’s actually pretty good going. In any event, I’d rather have some rips in the paper and lots of pictures in the can, than perfect paper and no pictures. Besides, I really like that shot, and so does Estella Rose! 🙂
In fact I’m really pleased with the entire shoot. As usual with my shoots with Estella Rose, I have run-out full colour and “Ilford FP4” film emulation monochrome versions of each image. The monochrome versions can be found on page 2 of the gallery below. I have to say I particularly like the way the black-and-whites have turned out this time…
