Photo shoots 2014.
My second shoot with River, and my first shoot of 2014. And what an excellent way to start the year it was too!
This time our shoot was predominantly fashion-orientated, with River providing most of the outfits. I must say, her choice of outfits was really superb. In fact, it reminded me of just how much I like doing fashion.
Had the pleasure of working with Amie today. She is a fabulous model and a really nice, considerate down-to-earth person. She has an amazing physique and perfect posture. She is also very hard-working. Although this was her first ever retro fitness shoot, she tried very hard to work to the creative brief and understand the genre.
This particular shoot was “retro fitness” and required a fit, smiley model. She was perfect for the part because in addition to her fabulous figure and highly-developed sense-of-fun, she has a smile that lights up the room.
Today, we had the pleasure of working on a retro fitness shoot with Scottish model and dancer NatalieD. She is a talented, attractive model with a professional attitude towards her work. She also has slim elegant figure, excellent posture and was keen to engage with the retro/pin-up genre - perfect for our style of retro-fitness photography.
She is also a trained dancer and we wanted to include this “dance element” in the images we created together. We also wanted to use the model's ability to make difficult poses look natural and easy. Above all, we wanted the entire shoot to have a “sense of fun”.
Primarily we used Natalie to capture that powerfully feminine late-fifties/early-sixties look we admire so much here at waist.it. The emphasis was on making her look as tall and elegant as possible, whilst making her waist look as small and concave as possible – as pin-up models would have been done perhaps fifty or sixty years ago.
Josie really is in a class of her own and a delight to work with. She is what would have been described in days of old as a "natural beauty", with big green eyes and a smile that lights up the room. Nice hair, great legs, fabulous figure, tiny little waist, perfect posture and NO tattoos - not even a small one.
Her pre-shoot comms were excellent and she really went that extra mile to understand the genre. She even read and understood the shoot plan! We were utterly gobsmacked!
As a trained dancer Josie has the physique and stamina to make complex and difficult poses look natural and easy. So natural, so flexible, so hard-working. She is also a very considerate, down-to-earth and thoroughly decent human being.
In fact, I think I can honestly say Josie is one of the finest models I have ever worked with. And I as you will see if you go back through the waist.it archives, we have been doing this for over 20 years!
I had the pleasure of working with Sammy-Clare and her friend Dollybird . Turns out it was their first shoot actually working together. But it worked perfectly. Seems they were both new to the retro-fitness genre too. But that did not faze either of them. In fact they took to it amazingly quickly and they were very keen to learn and try new ideas. Sammy-Clare has quite a distinctive retro look. And that slightly coy expression she does is amazingly cute and perfect for the genre. Dollybird had quite a few of her own ideas too – something we hope to develop during our next shoot.
It was an exhausting shoot for all concerned but I am delighted with the images. Working with either girl on her own would be great. But if you are lucky enough to work with both of them, then you are in for a very good shoot indeed.
Donah is a super model and a pleasure to work with. She seems a little shy at first. But if you take the time and trouble to direct her properly, explain the concept behind the shoot to her and make sure she is in outfits that she feels comfortable with, then she really starts to shine.
As a relatively new model she is perfect for our style of work. She is keen to learn and she takes direction well. The retro genre really suits her because she has a timeless beauty. She also has a lovely figure that responds well to all that old-fashioned corsetry and deportment stuff.
Sadly we ran out of time to do all the costumes we had picked out for her. So I really hope we can do another shoot later in the year and try some more of those retro outfits on her.
Had a fantastic shoot with the fabulous Charlotte. Charlotte is a beautiful and talented young lady who takes her work seriously. In fact she spent quite a lot of time preparing for the shoot, including having her hair done and topping up her perfectly even tan. Her pre-shoot comms were excellent. She even read and understood the shoot plan!
With her lovely slim hourglass figure, tiny little waist and legs that go on forever, Charlotte has the perfect body for vintage pinup and retro fitness. She also has a good sense of fun and is very keen to learn.
As well as being a very hard worker, Charlotte is also a very kind and gentle person. Luckily for me, she is based just a few km from my studio. I hope we can work together very soon.
I was delighted to book my second retro-fitness shoot with Josie. With her fabulous figure and a smile that lights up the room, Josie is the perfect choice for my type of work. She also brings her own special style and charm to the shoot, that she is able to meld perfectly with the creative brief, with seemingly effortless ease.
This time we decided to be more experimental - doing multiple exposure work in an attempt to capture her dance moves. Josie's dance training means that she is able to place herself with millimetric accuracy, making difficult and complex poses look natural and easy.
She is able to maintain that delicate balance between being hard-working and determined to get a pose right, with being fun, laid-back and pleasant to work with. Frankly, the English language does not have enough superlatives to describe Josie as accurately as I would like! She is an amazing model and I am delighted with the end results.
This was my first shot with Lauren. She is relatively new to the world of modelling and seemed a little nervous at the start. It was a retro fitness shoot and I think she found the shoot quite demanding too. But she worked very hard and produced some good results. The best part of the shoot came near the end when we moved on to corsets. She has what a friend of mine describes as a very "corset-friendly" body - seems she is a big corset fan.
She was chaperoned by her boyfriend, Adam, who turned out to be a very nice chap too. I hope to arrange a second shoot with Lauren in the near future, when we plan to deploy her own collection of corsets.
We had a fantastic first shoot with the lovely Kerri_Jayne. Kerri arrived punctually at the studio, almost on the dot of 10:00 UTC and apart from a brief lunch-break, she worked her socks off all day.
With her slim-but-curvy figure, cheeky little smile and beautiful blue-green eyes, Kerri is a perfect retro-fitness model. Despite being relatively new to modelling she quickly got to grips with the vintage genre and was able to make complex or demanding poses look natural and easy. And her dance background meant she was able to place herself with millimetric accuracy too.
She is a fabulous model and a very nice person too – I am very much looking forward to our next shoot.
The vintage genre is not everybody's cup of tea. But Lora took to it immediately. This shoot was somewhat experimental. The idea was to try lots of pin-up style outfits and see which looked best on her. So we put Lora in a variety of retro swimwear and corsetry, set up the lights and shot her from all angles. Trouble is that it's hard to figure out what looks best because everything looks great on her!
Her sister Amy came with her as chaperone and turned out to be a first class stylist and general helper. In fact, if there were an international award for best ever chaperone then Amy would certainly make it to the finals! Amy also worked on Lora's posture using a variety of methods that they both learned from their grandmother when they were kids.
Seems their grandmother had been a model when she was young, back in the day when models were taught deportment. So when Lora and Amy were growing up, Gran told them off if they slouched or let their bellies hang out. She even gave them special exercises to make them tuck in their tummies - which they demonstrated during the shoot.
Sadly we ran out of time to do all the outfits we prepared. Six hours disappeared in what seemed about 20 minutes. And the we overran by nearly two hours! But we are planning a second shoot with both girls in the near future to pick up where we left off this time.
This was Katy and Momo's first shoot working together. But it worked wonderfully well. They were both new to the retro-fitness genre too. But that did not faze them. In fact they took to it amazingly quickly and they were very keen to learn and try new ideas.
Katy was punctual, friendly and very hard working. With her slim figure, platinum-blonde hair and long, long legs, Katy looked wonderful. And being so petite meant we could try many of our tiniest costumes on her. Momo is a natural in front of the camera, with her slim but athletic figure and eye catching looks. She turned out to be quite a good photographer too - something I hope we can develop further during our next shoot.
It was an exhausting shoot for all concerned but I am delighted with the images. Working with either girl on her own would be great. But if you are ever lucky enough to work with both of them, then you are in for a very good shoot indeed.
I had the pleasure of working with Heidi for the first time on a retro-fitness shoot, 2014-09-07. She has a slim but curvy figure which is perfect for vintage work. And her posture is lovely too. She arrived at the studio on the dot, all ready to start work. Apart from a short lunch-break, she worked solidly for almost seven hours - which seemed to zoom-by in a few minutes.
In addition to being a first class model, Heidi is a professional hairdresser and pretty skilled in the "make-up department" too - which was all very handy for achieving the look we wanted. All-in all, Heidi is a fabulous model and a very nice, professional, friendly down-to-earth person. I hope we can work together again very soon. Highly recommended.
Today we had the pleasure of a day-long retro-fitness shoot with Egle. As well as being a good model, she is a lovely, fun person to work with. She also has a good understanding of the retro/vintage genre. And she has a delightfully curvy, corset-friendly figure that suits our style of work perfectly. Our six-hour shoot flew-by in what seemed like 20 minutes.
